6 iPad Uses For Moms

When the iPad first came out, I wanted one.  Not because I knew I absolutely needed it, but I’m a geek.  I like new technology.  I have a laptop and a Nook, but I still wanted that iPad.  But, I’m also one not to spend money on myself.  I tried winning them in just about every place imaginable, but apparently everyone else was too because I never won!

For my 5th anniversary in November, my lovely (also geeky) husband bought me an iPad.  It was my anniversary/birthday/Christmas present since all of these celebrations take place within a month of each other.  My husband has made comments that it is the best AND worst present he ever bought me.  Best because I like it so much; worst because I don’t think I acknowledged him for a good 48 hours after receiving it!  Except to say thank you, of course.

Things I use my iPad for:
  • Cooking – I try a lot of recipes off of the Internet.  When I am using a new recipe, I bring my iPad into the kitchen so that I can read the next step or the next ingredient.  Easier than running back and forth to my desk or wasting paper.
  • Distraction – I’ve found that there are a lot of toddler and preschool apps for the iPad.  They are really good at keeping the little ones distracted during check out lines or waiting to see the doctor.  Obviously, you don’t let them run around playing with it, but my one year old and three year old both know how to use it.  My three year old actually taught my mother how to use her new iPad.
  • Reading – I was in heaven on Mother’s day when I bought myself the Nook.  See, I love reading, but having a reading habit actually takes up a lot of space in a small house.  Books pile up and just take over.  I stopped reading because of that.  I resisted the eReader idea for the longest time because I love the way a book feels and smells.  (see, I told you I was a geek!)  I loved my Nook.  I was reading again.  Since getting my iPad, I haven’t touched my Nook.  I can read in the dark on my iPad.  Having downloaded the Nook software, I can now access my Nook library as well.
  • Connections – Email, Facebook, and Twitter.  Enough said.
  • Schedule – I have the Cozi app downloaded onto my iPad which allows me to edit, add, and view my schedule for the coming month(s).
  • Checklists – I have my cleaning checklists, shopping lists, todo lists, blog ideas, and writing ideas all on my iPad.

For the most part, I use my iPad at night.  That is when I can sit down, do some research, make notes, and connect with other people.  And, of course, read a little before bed!
