Magical Pretend Play With Playtime Theater For iPad
I’ve mentioned before that I try not to do too many apps for kids; only those special deals or truly impressive. Playtime Theater falls into the category of being truly impressive. Although I am all for games being educational, I feel that children need to have imaginative play. I think it makes them more well rounded and, in the end, it allows them to be better critical thinkers. Yes, I know, I am no parenting expert –trust me, if you’ve read my mommy blog, you know I’m not! But, in my experience, having an active imagination as a child, allows you to look at problems on many dimensions.
Anyway, Playtime Theater is digital puppet theater where your child is in control of the characters, script, sound effects, and actions. Your child can dress each character, add action props (magic wand, etc.,) and soundtracks. Once the characters are set up to your child’s liking, press the record button and you and your child can act out a scene. Use silly voices and move the characters around the castle. Change the scene from day to night, check behind the waterfall for a surprise, and even attack the castle! Once your scene is over, you can play it back. It will record your voice and you can watch what you just created and hear all the silly voices.
My three year old had a blast with this one. She made silly voices, and screeched when she saw the monsters. I think, at three, she is a tad bit too young to get the most out of this app. I definitely enjoyed it. I would create a show for her in secret and show it to her. She liked the silly sounds mommy made. I love that this app seems to be one of a kind in the app store. I haven’t seen anything like it before. Like I said, I love that it builds a child’s imagination!
