Dylan Monkey And Squishy Face: Free Reading Comprehension Story Book For iPhone and iPad

Dylan Monkey & Squishy Face 1

There are story books everywhere in the App Store, I know.  Trust me, I’ve downloaded a lot of them and have been disappointed with a lot.  Those that stand out get a place here on TechTools4Mom.  Dylan Monkey and Squishy Face has got to be my absolute favorite out of the bunch so far.  Seriously, I can’t stop saying Squishy Face.

There are three ways to read the story; Read To Me, Read To Myself, or Auto Play.  Read to me reads the story to your child, but requires you or your child to activate the onscreen animation and to turn the page.  Read to myself allows you or your child to read the story without any narration and also requires you to turn the page and activate the animation.  Auto play reads the story to your child, animations on each page are automatic, and the pages turn by themselves.

Benefit To Moms

At this time, Dyan Monkey & Squishy Face is free –big benefit, right?  Well, hurry up if you want it because I don’t think it is going to last long!  Outside of the price, it is a great book to encourage and teach critical thinking skills to children.  Dylan tells his mom he thinks his little brother needs more hands so that he can crawl and drink his milk at the same time.  His mother, Frazzle Dazzle, tells him that he needs to come up with a plan to make that happen.  The story shows Dylan thinking and trying different things in order to give his brother more hands.

What This Mom Liked

I fell in love with the characters and the illustrations of this story book.  Squishy Face reminds me way too much of my 20 month old little girl.  Just want to eat up those cheeks!

At the end of the story, there are discussion questions for your children.  I love the idea of this.  Reading comprehension at 4, I was impressed with the answers I got from her!  Not to mention, we got a few giggles out of it too.

What This Mom Did Not Like

The only thing that bothered me about this story book was the fact that I could see the wheels turning in my daughters head.  One of these days, I’m going to see my youngest daughter covered with glue and cheese sticks sticking all over her…..  Really, there is nothing about this book I didn’t like.

Dylan & Squishy Face is now one of our go-to bedtime stories.  Both of my girls enjoy the Read To Me mode, which allows them to take turns doing the animations and they like hearing the silly voices better than mommy’s boring old voice.   Check out some of the screen shots below so you can see why I like the illustrations so much!

Dylan & Squishy Face is a universal app available in the AppStore (Free at the time of this posting)
